Sydney Harbour Family Photoshoot – George & Catherine’s Family

It was such a pleasure to meet George, Catherine and their family for a photoshoot around Sydney Harbour. After a few rainy days, we were lucky enough to wake up to a beautiful winter morning with soft sunlight and clear skies.

We spent the morning exploring the harbour together, with the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge providing an incredible backdrop for their family photographs.

The children, Elle and Jack, were both lovely to photograph, although they had very different personalities in front of the camera. Elle was full of joy and smiles, while Jack, at 12, was a little more hesitant at first. It didn't take long for him to relax, though, and some of my favourite photographs are the quieter moments where his personality really comes through.

A Family Photoshoot Around Sydney Harbour

One of the things I love about photographing families around Sydney Harbour is the variety we can capture within one session. We can photograph the family with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge in the background, then move to quieter spots where the focus is simply on the family together.

As we wandered around the harbour, I photographed a mixture of family portraits and more natural moments as they happened. The children laughing and interacting with each other, George and Catherine sharing proud smiles, and those little moments of connection between everyone.

I always like to give families plenty of space to simply enjoy being together rather than having every photograph feel posed. It means we can capture the personalities of the children as well as the family as a whole.

Making the Most of a Winter Morning in Sydney

Although it was winter, the morning turned out beautifully. After the rain we had been having, the sunshine and clear skies were a very welcome change.

Early mornings around Sydney Harbour can be particularly lovely for family photoshoots. The light is soft, the harbour is generally quieter and there is plenty of time to explore without the crowds that arrive later in the day.

For a family visiting Sydney, it also means you can combine your photographs with a morning around the Opera House and Harbour Bridge before continuing with the rest of your day.

Capturing Their Sydney Memories

I love that their photographs aren't just about having beautiful portraits of the family. The Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour will always remind them of this particular time together in Sydney.

And alongside those iconic views are the photographs that are simply about them: the children's personalities, the way they interact with each other and the little moments that happened as we explored the harbour.

Those are often the photographs that become the favourites because they bring back the feeling of the morning, as well as how everyone looked.
