From Orlando to Sydney – Kyla & Andrew’s Sydney Family Photoshoot
There’s something lovely about photographing families who love to travel, and Kyla, Andrew and their girls were such a joy to photograph during their visit to Sydney.
The family had travelled from Orlando, Florida to Australia for their vacation, and as keen travellers, they love booking professional photography sessions when they visit different parts of the world. I was thrilled to capture some memories of their time in Sydney, with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge providing the backdrop.
We met on a crisp winter morning, with beautiful soft light and very few people around the harbour. It was the perfect time to explore the area together and capture a relaxed mix of family portraits and the little moments that happened naturally along the way.
A Sydney Family Photoshoot Around the Harbour
The girls were super sweet and full of joy, and it was lovely watching them relax into the session as we explored the harbour together.
We started with the Harbour Bridge in the background before making our way towards the Opera House. Early mornings are one of my favourite times to photograph families around Sydney Harbour. The light is soft, there are usually fewer people around and everyone tends to feel a little more relaxed before the day gets busy.
Despite the cool winter air, the whole family embraced the morning with plenty of laughter and cuddles. We captured a mixture of photographs with the harbour and landmarks in the background, as well as more natural moments of the family simply enjoying their time together.
From there, we made our way to the iconic Opera House steps for some beautiful portraits. I love having a few different locations within one session because it gives the final gallery plenty of variety without feeling like we’ve simply taken the same photograph in different spots.
One of my favourite things about family sessions is having a mix of beautiful portraits alongside the moments that happen naturally in between. Dad dancing with his daughter, the connection between mother and daughter, a quick glance between parents or everyone laughing together.
Those little interactions are often the photographs that bring you straight back to how it felt to be together.
