Violinist Portraits at Sydney Opera House – Alex from Montana

Sydney is a dream destination for many travellers, but for one talented young violinist from Montana, this week will be truly unforgettable. I had the pleasure of photographing Sandy, Jasen, and their son Alex, who are visiting Australia as Alex prepares to perform with an orchestra tonight at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Our session by the harbour and on the Opera House steps was such a joy, made even more special knowing it marks an unforgettable moment for their family. We captured a beautiful mix of family portraits and violin portraits at the Sydney Opera House, celebrating not only their time in Sydney but Alex’s remarkable achievement.

We started the morning with some relaxed family portraits beside the harbour, then wandered up to the Opera House steps – such an iconic spot. I was really impressed by Alex as we chatted about his performance coming up at the Opera House. He was so calm and just taking everything in his stride. It’s such an incredible achievement for a young musician from Montana.

Then came one of those moments I’ll never forget – as I was photographing Alex on the steps, he started to play his violin. The notes carried softly through the air as the sun lit up the sails behind him. It was such a moving moment, and made for some really special portraits. Capturing him in that space – completely present and doing what he loves – was magic.

This session was a beautiful blend of family connection, personal achievement, and once-in-a-lifetime moments. We created a mix of candid and posed images, with a special focus on violinist portraits at the Sydney Opera House, capturing both the emotion of the occasion and the striking architecture.
