Sydney Solo Portrait Session - Trish

A Sydney Solo Portrait Session at Sydney Harbour with Trish

When Trish reached out about a solo portrait session in Sydney, she was visiting Australia from Canada for the first time to compete in the World Triathlon Championship. She wanted to celebrate this personal achievement with photographs that captured her time in Sydney and the experience of travelling here on her own.

We met at Sydney Harbour in the morning and explored the area around the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, creating a relaxed collection of portraits as we went.

Celebrating a Personal Achievement in Sydney

There was something particularly lovely about photographing Trish during this trip. She had travelled all the way from Canada to compete in the World Triathlon Championship, and her portrait session gave her a chance to pause and celebrate the experience.

We moved around the harbour, taking advantage of the different settings and morning light. From portraits beside the Opera House in her vibrant yellow dress to photographs with the Harbour Bridge and sandstone around us, each part of the location gave us something different to work with.

I'll guide you throughout the session, so you never need to worry about what to do in front of the camera. We'll walk, explore and try different poses and compositions as we go, with plenty of room for natural moments too.

A Relaxed Portrait Session at Sydney Harbour

Sydney Harbour is one of my favourite places for solo portrait sessions because there is so much variety within a relatively small area.

The Opera House, Harbour Bridge, sandstone, water and surrounding walkways all create different settings, so we can move around rather than staying in one spot. This helps create a collection of portraits that feels varied while still telling the story of your time in Sydney.

For Trish, the morning light was beautiful. There was a breeze moving through her dress, ferries passing across the harbour and plenty of opportunities for natural movement between the more composed portraits.

It didn't feel staged or overly posed. We simply explored the harbour together and created photographs along the way.

If you'd like to include the Opera House in your own session, you can explore my Sydney Opera House photoshoots for more information.

Solo Travel and the Experience of Being in Sydney

For many people, travelling somewhere on your own is an experience worth remembering. Having a portrait session while you're here can become part of that experience, rather than simply another activity on your itinerary.

You might be celebrating a personal achievement, marking a new chapter, travelling for the first time on your own, or simply wanting photographs of yourself in a place you've always wanted to visit.

I love that solo portraits give you the opportunity to be in the photographs rather than always being the person behind the camera or relying on selfies.

Trish's session was a lovely example of this. She had come to Sydney for an important personal achievement, and we created photographs that captured both her and the place she was experiencing.
