Ben and Saskia travelled from Germany for a holiday in Australia, but Ben had something extra special planned for their time in Sydney. He wanted to surprise Saskia with a proposal overlooking the harbour, and Kirribilli Lookout was the perfect setting for the moment.
With the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House in view, the setting brought together some of Sydney’s most recognisable landmarks with a personal surprise that Saskia wasn’t expecting.
Ben contacted me before his trip to organise the proposal. We planned the details in advance so he could arrive knowing what to expect and focus on the moment itself.
He had arranged fresh flowers and French champagne, ready for them to celebrate together after Saskia said yes.
Kirribilli Lookout offered a beautiful harbour backdrop for the proposal. Planning ahead also meant we could coordinate the timing and photography discreetly, keeping the surprise intact until the right moment.
When the moment arrived, Ben asked Saskia to marry him with Sydney Harbour as the backdrop. After all the planning, it was lovely to capture her reaction and the excitement they shared once the surprise was revealed.
The flowers and champagne gave them a chance to pause and celebrate together before we continued with their portraits.
After the proposal, we continued with relaxed engagement portraits close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It gave Ben and Saskia the opportunity to enjoy being engaged while creating a varied collection of photographs from their time in Sydney.
Rather than making the session feel overly posed, I guided them through the portraits naturally, allowing space for the excitement and connection of the moment to come through.
