A Surprise Proposal at Kirribilli, Sydney Harbour - Tyler & Nicole

There is something special about a proposal overlooking Sydney Harbour, especially with the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge as the backdrop.

Tyler and Nicole were visiting from New York for their first trip to Sydney, spending just over a week here to enjoy everything the city has to offer. Little did Nicole know that their visit would also become the setting for one of the most memorable moments of their lives.

Tyler had planned a surprise proposal beside the water at Kirribilli, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge providing the backdrop. Nicole was completely taken by surprise and so excited when Tyler asked her to marry him.

Watching their reaction and sharing in such a special moment was lovely, and I was thrilled to be there to capture it. 💍

Kirribilli is one of my favourite locations for a Sydney Harbour proposal. With beautiful views across the water towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it offers a wonderful setting for couples visiting Sydney from overseas.

Tyler and Nicole were visiting Sydney for the first time, and we had originally planned the proposal for an earlier date. However, with the weather not on our side, we needed to be flexible and find a better opportunity during their stay.

Thankfully, we were able to make it work, and Tyler’s plans for a surprise proposal at Kirribilli came together beautifully.

After the proposal, we spent some time exploring the harbourside surroundings for engagement portraits.

It was a lovely opportunity for Tyler and Nicole to enjoy being engaged and create photographs to remember their first visit to Sydney.

I love that these portraits are not just about the proposal itself, but also about the two of them enjoying this special time together. With just over a week in Sydney, it was lovely to create photographs that would remind them of their engagement and their time discovering the city.

Celebrating their engagement with the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge

The celebrations continued the following morning when I met Tyler and Nicole for a morning session on Sydney Harbour. With the sails of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in view, we captured more engagement portraits and made the most of their time in Sydney.

I love when couples visiting from overseas choose to extend their proposal experience with an additional engagement session. Having photographs from both the proposal and the following morning gives them different memories of this exciting time, from the surprise itself to the portraits they created together afterwards.

The morning after a proposal is also a lovely opportunity to slow down, take it all in and enjoy that newly engaged feeling. By the time I meet couples again, the initial surprise has settled, but the excitement is still very much there.

I love being able to capture that happiness as they spend time together and celebrate what’s just happened.

Tyler and Nicole - I hope you love your Sydney proposal portraits. I can’t wait to share the rest of your photographs with you very soon.

Planning a surprise proposal in Sydney

Sydney Harbour has so many beautiful places for a surprise proposal. I help couples find a location that suits them and plan the details, so they can enjoy the moment without worrying about what happens next.

If you’re planning a proposal in Sydney, I’d love to hear what you have in mind.
