Sandro & Carla’s Surprise Proposal at Kirribilli, Sydney

Sandro and Carla brought a little Swiss romance to Sydney Harbour when Sandro planned a surprise proposal at Kirribilli. With beautiful harbour views and the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a backdrop, it was a lovely setting for a moment they would remember for years to come.

Sandro wanted the proposal to feel personal and intimate, with time afterwards to enjoy the excitement and celebrate their engagement together. We planned the details in advance so I could capture the moment discreetly, without giving away his surprise.

A Sunset Surprise Proposal overlooking Sydney Harbour

As the sun began to set, Sandro and Carla paused at a scenic vantage point in Kirribilli. The harbour stretched out behind them, creating a beautiful backdrop for what Carla thought was simply another moment together.

Then Sandro got down on one knee.

Carla was taken by surprise, and the moment unfolded with all the excitement and emotion that make each proposal unique. There was the question, her reaction and the first embrace as they realised they were engaged.

Being there to photograph these moments is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. I can capture the genuine reactions as they happen, while allowing the couple to stay focused on each other.

Celebrating Their Engagement

Once Carla had said yes, the initial surprise gave way to laughter, embraces and the excitement of beginning this next chapter together.

We took our time creating relaxed portraits around the harbour. I offered a little direction when needed, while giving Sandro and Carla space to enjoy the moment and simply be themselves.

Having photographs of the proposal itself is wonderful, but I also love creating portraits afterwards. They capture the two of you together at the beginning of your engagement, when the excitement is still fresh and everything feels wonderfully new.

Why Kirribilli Is a Beautiful Place to Propose

Kirribilli is one of my favourite areas to consider for a Sydney Harbour proposal. Depending on the spot we choose, you can enjoy views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House while finding a setting that feels more intimate than some of the busiest tourist locations.

Sunset can create beautiful light across the harbour, although the best timing depends on the season and the location. I help plan the details in advance, including where to meet, where I'll position myself to photograph the proposal discreetly and how we can move into portraits afterwards.

Other locations may suit you better depending on the atmosphere you're after. Some couples love the iconic harbour views, while others prefer a beach or a quieter coastal setting.

After the proposal, we continued photographing Sandro and Carla as the evening light softened. Their portraits included quiet moments together, laughter and the kind of natural interactions that reflect their relationship.
