A Special Family Reunion at Bondi Beach

Some families make a photo session feel easy from the very beginning, and Lisa and her family were exactly like that. Within minutes, it felt less like we had just met and more like I was catching up with old friends.

Lisa was visiting Sydney from Canada with her two teenagers for the Sydney Marathon and had also planned a family reunion while she was here. Her parents had travelled over from South Australia, so they were all able to spend some time together in Sydney.

Three Generations at Bondi Beach

One of the things I loved about this photo session was seeing three generations of the family together. Bondi Beach was a beautiful place to photograph them, with the ocean and rocks providing a lovely backdrop.

With Lisa, her two teenagers and her parents all together, there was a lovely mix of family connection, laughter and a little bit of fun - exactly what makes a family session feel personal.

We walked along the water's edge, chatting and laughing as we walked along the beach. We captured a mix of family portraits and more relaxed photographs, with plenty of smiles along the way.

One of my favourite things about photographing families is capturing the genuine smiles, the laughter and the little interactions between them.

Even in a more traditional family portrait, those details are what make the photographs feel personal and reflect the personalities within a family.

For Lisa, this trip was about more than visiting Sydney for the marathon. It was also a chance to spend time with her parents and children and have everyone together in Sydney.

The colourful street art around Bondi added a vibrant backdrop for a few photographs of the teenagers, bringing a little of Bondi's character into the images.

I love that these photographs will give them something to look back on from this time together - the laughter, the conversations and the memories they made as a family.
