Visiting Sydney from Ireland, James and Caoimhe had never been to Sydney before. James wanted to propose somewhere that truly meant something - somewhere that matched the size of the moment. Bondi felt right.
It was a warm summer evening, the light soft, the beach doing what Bondi does best. I had suggested to James a spot along the beach that felt tucked away enough for the moment but still had that gorgeous sweep of beach stretching out behind them.
And then he got down on one knee. Caoimhe's reaction was everything - complete surprise, pure joy, not a single rehearsed thing about it. This is honestly my favourite part. You can plan the location, the timing, the cover story - but you cannot plan for the look of joy on someone's face in that moment. It is always worth every bit of the effort that goes into making it happen.

After the yes, we wandered along the water's edge, letting the excitement settle and the reality of it all sink in. We moved between the beach and towards the sandstone rocks with Icebergs in the background, keeping everything relaxed. The images feel just like the evening did - happy, light and completely them.
Why Bondi Beach is One of Sydney's Best Proposal Locations
I photograph at Bondi regularly and it is genuinely one of my favourite locations to work as a Bondi proposal photographer. The light, the space, the texture of the sand and water - it all comes together without you having to try too hard. There are quieter pockets of the beach that offer more privacy, and the headland and surrounding areas give great options for portraits once the moment has happened.
For couples visiting Sydney for the first time it is also a really special choice. Proposing somewhere brand new to both of you means that place becomes yours from that very first visit - and that is a lovely thing.
