A Sunset Proposal on the Steps of the Sydney Opera House - Nick & Kara

There are few places in Sydney more iconic for a proposal than the Sydney Opera House, but there was something particularly special about Nick and Kara’s proposal. Visiting Australia for the very first time, they had arrived in Sydney that morning - and by that evening, Nick was proposing to Kara on the steps of the Sydney Opera House as the sun began to set over Sydney Harbour. 💍

It was a pretty incredible way to begin their first trip to Australia.

We were right at the top of the Sydney Opera House steps, with the impressive architecture and warm evening light creating a spectacular backdrop. It was here that Nick proposed to Kara, surrounded by the beauty of Sydney Harbour and the unmistakable sails of the Opera House.

With the golden light of sunset behind them, it was a truly magical setting for such an important moment.

As a Sydney proposal photographer, I feel incredibly lucky to capture moments like this. There is something so special about witnessing a couple experience one of the biggest moments of their lives and preserving those memories for them.

The following morning, I met Nick and Kara again for an engagement session around Sydney Harbour. It was lovely to have a little more time together after the excitement of the proposal and to get to know them properly as we explored the harbour and photographed them together.

With the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House providing the backdrop, we enjoyed a beautiful spring morning in Sydney and captured some relaxed engagement portraits.

I loved having the opportunity to photograph them again so soon after the proposal. The morning session felt relaxed and natural as we wandered around Sydney Harbour, chatted and captured photographs of them enjoying this exciting time together.

For Nick and Kara, it was their first trip to Australia, making these photographs an especially meaningful reminder of the beginning of their Australian adventure.

From their arrival in Sydney to a sunset proposal at the Opera House and an engagement session around Sydney Harbour the following morning, Nick and Kara certainly made the most of their first days in Australia. It was such a privilege to capture a little part of their time here and to photograph this exciting chapter in their lives.
