A Special Family Reunion at Bondi Beach

Some families make a photography session feel easy from the very beginning, and Lisa and her family were exactly like that. Within minutes, it felt less like we had just met and more like we were catching up with old friends.

Lisa was visiting Sydney from Canada for the Sydney Marathon and had also planned a family reunion while she was here with her two teenagers. Her parents, who had travelled over from South Australia, were all together in Sydney - making it the perfect opportunity to capture some photographs of their time together.

Three Generations Together at Bondi Beach

One of the things I loved most about this session was seeing the connection between the three generations.

With Lisa, her two teenagers and her parents all together, there was a lovely mix of family connection, laughter and a little bit of teenage fun - exactly what makes a family session feel personal.

We walked along the beach, chatted and laughed together, capturing a mix of beautiful family portraits and more natural moments as they spent time together. I loved being able to photograph not only everyone together, but also the individual relationships and personalities within their family.

One of my favourite things about photographing families is capturing the connection between them - the genuine smiles, the way they laugh together, the little interactions between family members and the personalities that come through when everyone is together. Even in a more traditional family portrait, those relationships are what make the photographs feel personal and meaningful.

For Lisa, this trip was about more than visiting Sydney for the marathon. It was also a chance to spend time with her parents and children and have everyone together in Sydney.

I love that these photographs will give them something to look back on from this time together - the people they shared it with, the laughs they had and the memories they made along the way.

Bondi Beach was a lovely setting for their family session, and I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with all of them.
