There is something incredibly special about photographing a surprise proposal, especially when a couple has travelled to Sydney from overseas.
Billy and Amy are from Ireland and have been living in Samoa for the past couple of years. Before leaving for their holiday, Billy contacted me to arrange a 'birthday photoshoot' in Sydney.
Little did Amy know, he had a much bigger surprise planned.

We arranged an early-morning photoshoot around Sydney Harbour, with the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House as the backdrop.
Before they arrived in Sydney, Billy and I had planned how we would make the proposal feel completely natural while keeping the surprise hidden from Amy.
With the sails of the Sydney Opera House behind them, Billy got down on one knee ...
... and he asked Amy to marry him. Amy was completely surprised - and absolutely thrilled.
It was such a beautiful moment to capture, and it reminded me just how grateful I am to be able to photograph such meaningful moments in people's lives.
After the moment, it was so lovely to capture the excitement and joy as they celebrated their engagement together. What a special moment in their lives.
We had such a lovely morning together - exploring Sydney, chatting, laughing and celebrating this incredibly exciting moment with Billy and Amy. By the end of the session, it felt like we'd known each other much longer than just one morning.
One of my favourite parts of being a photographer is getting to know the couples I photograph. For me, a proposal photoshoot is about so much more than capturing the moment itself - it's about spending time together, getting to know each other and creating photographs that tell the story.
To finish the session, we took some photographs on the steps of the Opera House and with its distinctive architecture, creating a beautiful collection of images from their time in Sydney and this very special moment in their lives.
It was such a pleasure to be part of this special moment and to spend such a wonderful morning with you both.
