A Sydney Harbour Portrait Session with Patricia
When Patricia travelled to Sydney from Philadelphia, she wanted to have some photographs taken while she was here and capture something of her experience in Sydney.
We spent a beautiful morning exploring Sydney Harbour, with the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge providing the backdrop for her portrait session. It was a relaxed way to experience one of the most recognisable parts of Sydney while creating photographs to remember her trip.
Exploring Sydney Harbour
Sydney Harbour gives us so much variety for a portrait session. We moved between different viewpoints around the harbour, making the most of the morning light and the architecture, water and sandstone around us.
Having the Opera House and Harbour Bridge nearby meant we could create a range of portraits without needing to stay in one place. As we walked and explored, I looked for different backgrounds, compositions and moments that worked naturally with the setting.
I love photographing visitors around Sydney Harbour because the location becomes part of their experience of the city. You're not simply standing in front of a landmark, you're exploring the harbour and creating photographs along the way.
A Relaxed Sydney Portrait Session
My approach to portrait photography is professional but relaxed. I'll guide you throughout the session, so you never need to worry about what to do in front of the camera.
We'll try different poses and compositions as we move around, while leaving plenty of room for you to relax and be yourself. Sometimes it's a small movement, a change of direction or simply the way you naturally interact with the surroundings that creates one of my favourite photographs.
For Patricia, this meant we could enjoy the morning together while creating a collection of portraits that felt natural and connected to her experience of being in Sydney.

Sydney Harbour as Your Backdrop
One of the things I love about photographing portraits around Sydney Harbour is how much the scenery changes as you move through the area.
The Opera House creates a beautiful architectural backdrop, while the Harbour Bridge, sandstone and water offer completely different settings. We can also take advantage of quieter corners and more open spaces to create portraits that feel less like traditional landmark photographs.
For visitors to Sydney, this can be a lovely way to combine a portrait session with exploring one of the city's most iconic locations.
