There is something pretty special about watching the sun rise over the ocean, but sharing that moment with the person you are soon to be engaged to makes it even better.
Matthew and Samantha were visiting Sydney from Melbourne when Matthew planned a surprise sunrise proposal at Bondi Beach. For Sam, who originally comes from the UK, it was an especially lovely way to experience one of Australia’s most famous beaches.
Matthew and I had been planning the Bondi sunrise proposal together for a few months, and as luck would have it, everything fell into place. The sunrise was beautiful, the ocean provided the perfect backdrop for Matthew to ask Sam to marry him. 💍
Matthew had put a lot of thought into planning the proposal, and it was wonderful to see everything come together on the morning.
As he proposed, Sam was completely surprised. It took a little while for what had just happened to sink in, and I don't think I stopped smiling throughout the entire session. Watching these two take in the moment, realising they were actually engaged, was such a lovely thing to photograph.
There was no need to rush anything. We had time to let it all sink in, enjoy the sunrise over Bondi Beach and capture those first moments of being engaged together.
Once the initial excitement had settled, we spent some time beside the ocean, enjoying the sunrise and taking in the beautiful Bondi Beach setting.
From walking along the sand to exchanging those lovely looks that say so much, we captured a beautiful mix of moments from their first morning as an engaged couple.
There was a cheeky wave or two along the way, which added a little fun to the morning.
We then spent some time exploring the rocks, finding different spots to stop and enjoy the morning together. What struck me most about Matthew and Sam was how much they seemed to enjoy life together. You could really feel how much they cared about each other, and it was lovely to see them simply being themselves, taking in the excitement of their engagement.
We also explored a few of Bondi’s iconic spots for more portraits, including the Bondi Beach lifeguard tower.
Sunrise really is a fabulous way to start the day, and an even more fabulous way to start engaged life!
I loved capturing Matthew and Sam's sunrise proposal at Bondi beach. They were so completely in the moment, enjoying the excitement of their engagement and the chance to slow down together beside the ocean. With a beautiful sunrise at Bondi Beach and a surprise that Sam clearly wasn't expecting, it was a wonderful moment to be part of.
